Sheckler has partnered his Sheckler Foundation with Children's Cancer Research Fund for the 2008 Kids4Kids 5K Run/Walk. Sheckler will personally hand over the keys to the most successful fund-raiser. The event is set to take place in Los Angeles on April 27.

Barry Manilow is Giving Instruments to Local California Schools

Barry Manilow is pledging over $250,000 worth of musical instruments to the public middle and high schools surrounding Palm Springs in a bid to give students the same opportunities he received in his high school music class.
The Copacabana King said in a public statement in January, “When I got into high school, I really didn't know what I wanted to do. Then I hit the music class and I felt like I was on solid ground. I made friends… I learned how to work with other students and my grades went up in all the other classes because I had more confidence. It was the music class that did it for me.”

Charlton Heston Dies at 84

Legendary actor Charlton Heston died on April 5th at his home. Although Heston was known for his amazing roles in epic movies, many do not know of his epic charitable work. Besides supporting different environmental charities, Heston was involved in the civil rights movement. The Oscar winner also joined protests and later accompanied Martin Luther King on marches in 1963.

According to People Magazine, "Charlton had made an announcement of his Alzheimer's diagnosis in 2002 and had very much retired from public life."

American Idol is producing their very successful television special, Idol Gives Back. The show which airs on April 9th, has producers expecting this year’s event to raise over $100 million for charity. Stars who will be appearing on the show are: Brad Pitt, Miley Cyrus, Carrie Underwood, Mariah Carey, plus many more. According to the Idol website the six charities that will benefit from this years event are The Children's Defense Fund, Children's Health Fund, The Global Fund, Make It Right, Malaria No More, and Save the Children.

Congrats to Piers Morgan the Celebrity Apprentice

Piers Morgan has been named the Celebrity Apprentice. Morgan best known as the "mean judge" on America's Got Talent, was also known as the mean and ruthless candidate on the Celebrity Apprentice. Morgan was playing for the charity Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund. The fund "provides unrestricted grants to each spouse, child and parents of service members."

Morgan holds the charity close to his heart because his brother has fought in 2 tours of duty in Iraq and his brother-in-law has fought in 2 tours of duty in Afghanistan. Piers feels that "this is a great charity to play for."

Joe Mantegna will be holding his eighth Celebrity Golf Classic tournament benefiting Home Ownership Made Easy, an organization that provides housing for the disabled in California. Mantegna hold this organization close to his heart since he is a father of a special-needs child. He understands the anxieties and the barriers for disabled adults in finding self-sufficiency.

Illusionists Sigfried and Roy will be back on stage for an one night engagement that will benefit the Lou Ruvo Brain Institute (LRBI) in Las Vegas. Founder of the charity Keep Memory Alive, Larry Ruvo has named the institute after his father Lou Ruvo who died from Alzheimer’s disease last year. The one night show with Sigfried and Roy will be the first since the 2003 incident involving Roy and a tiger. The show will premiere next February in Las Vegas.

On March 20, 2008, Justin Timberlake gave two separate $100,000 donations to the Memphis Rock 'n' Soul Museum and the Memphis Music Foundation. The sexy-back singer was in is hometown of Memphis when he presented the money to both the museum and foundation. "He has never stopped giving back to the community, to the local music industry, and to young people." Memphis Rock 'n' Soul Executive Director John Doyle told People magazine.
The organizations will use Timberlake's contributions to advance music education for local students and further achieve its mission of "telling the story of Memphis Music and perpetuating its legacy."

According to People.com, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie gave more than $8 million in donations in 2006. According to records for 2006, the Jolie Pitt Foundation handed out $1 million to both Doctors Without Borders (International Division) and to the Global Action for Children. Additional gifts were given to the Namibia Red Cross Action Program, their daughter Shiloh was born in the African country. After Jolie played the widow, Marianne Pearl, in the movie A Mighty Heart she decided to donate $100,000 to the Daniel Pearl Foundation.

Although the show is going into its fifth week, Oprah Winfrey's new ABC show, Oprah's Big Give, is a BIG hit! I have been watching the show and it is definitely a great family show. If you have children please sit down and watch it with them. It is not too late to start watching it!

Each week the remaining contestants are give a task and usually a large amount of money. They are given a time limit and then the race begins to see who can give the biggest. There are three celebrity judges who decide which contestant must go home. Famous chef Jamie Oliver, NFL player Tony Gonzalez, and Maleek Compton-Rock wife of comedian Chris Rock are the ones who decides who gave big and who must go home. The last remaining contestant will win $1 million.

Give it a try, I did and it makes me want to give! Oprah's Big Give airs Sunday nights at 9 p.m. on ABC.

Many artist's have gathered together to paint celebrity faces on Easter eggs to benefit the charity Barnardo. Barnardo's helps children and their families over the long term to overcome the most severe disadvantages – problems like abuse, homelessness and poverty – and to tackle the challenges of disability. Superstars like David and Victoria Beckham, Prince Harry, Madonna, and Lily Allen have all been painted on the special holiday eggs. Currently the eggs are available on e-bay.

Jeremy Piven is urging everyone to go green. On March 29, 2008, twenty cities in over six continents will turn off their lights for Earth Hour. World Wildlife Federation (WWF) is sponsoring the event. According to the WWF "people of the world can make a difference in the fight against climate change by simply working together." Piven so excited about the event said “On March 29 at 8pm, join the global movement against global warming by turning your lights off for one hour. Turn out for Earth Hour.”

Hilary Swank Honored for Charity Work

Congrats to Academy Award winning actress Hilary Swank for receiving the Entertainment Industry Foundation's 2008 Courage Award. The award was given to Swank by her Million Dollar Baby co-star, Morgan Freeman, for her efforts on behalf of the EIF’s Women’s Cancer Research Fund. In November, Swank donated 9 inches of her hair to the Pantene Beautiful Lengths. The campaign was working with the American Cancer Society to provide free wigs to women who have lost their hair during cancer treatment.

Elton John's annual Academy Award viewing party raised $5.1 million for HIV/AIDS research. The star-studded event welcomed guest such as, Ellen DeGeneres, Sean Penn, Billy Joel, Seal, Hedi Klum, and Stevie Wonder to name a few. John co-hosted the party with his partner David Furnish. Guest were even entertained by Elton himself. They also enjoyed a dinner and a live auction. I am saddened to report that General Hospital star Shell Kepler has died. Kepler played the gossipy nurse Amy Vining from 1979-2002. Kepler was 48 years-old when she passed on Friday at Oregon Health & Science University hospital. According to TMZ.com the cause of death was renal (kidney) failure. Kepler was involved with many children's charities and also had her own clothing line called Lacy Afternoon.

According to People Magazine, Clooney is being recognized for focusing public attention on crucial international political and social issues." Clooney is working to create peace in Sudan by bringing the simple equipment that they need to protect their own.
I think that George Clooney definitely deserves this honor. He has been using his popularity for an amazing cause, PEACE! I can only hope that some other celebrities will follow in Clooney's footsteps and stand up and have their voice heard!!!
